Dr. Kavita Mariwalla Reflects on 5 common skincare mistakes that people make

by DN News Desk

Your skin is not only your largest organ in the body it is also one that acts as a watertight and flexible barrier between the world at large and the highly sensitive workings that exist inside the body. As dermatologist Dr. Kavita Mariwalla is keen to stress to his patients, “Never take your skin for granted. It is miraculous stuff. If you take care of your skin, your skin will take care of you.” Yet taking care of your skin is not as easy as many people are led to believe. As Dr. Kavita Mariwalla points out, “Even in a day and age where skincare awareness is at an all-time high, there’s still a handful of common mistakes that many people make.” Here are five common mistakes that everyone could easily avoid, according to Dr. Kavita Mariwalla.

Moisturize In The Morning, Not Just The Night
After they’ve washed away the stresses of the day, the last thing a lot of people do before turning in for the night is to moisturize. This is a great habit to get into, but don’t think that by moisturizing at night you don’t need to moisturize in the morning. Taking care of your skin before facing the world and all its problems is an absolute must if you want to feel and look radiant around the clock.

Hands-On Face!
This is a biggie and we all do it, albeit subconsciously. I’m talking about constantly touching your face when you’re nervous, excited, stressed, tired, or just bored. Your hands go a lot of places your face shouldn’t so keep your little fingers away if you want the skin on your face to look in tip-top condition at all times.

Stay Hydrated!
Water is probably the best moisturizer there is. So ensure you drink plenty of it during the day and stay hydrated. Water is renowned for keeping your skin clear of wrinkles and your complexion rosy.

Sunscreen Isn’t Just For Beach
The sun can play havoc with your skin but so many people labor under the misapprehension that you only need sunscreen for the beach. Wrong! You should be wearing it all the time when the sun is out and glaring if you want to maintain the overall health of your skin.

Your Phone Can Be Your Skin’s Enemy
This last one makes a lot of people laugh but trust me, it’s a serious issue. The screen of your phone picks up a ton of bacteria during the day and when you make a call what’s in the immediate vicinity of all that bacteria? You guessed it. Your face! So do your skin a favor and wipe down your phone with anti-bacterial wipes regularly if you want to keep looking fresh.
